Westminster Palace
Westminster Palace is one of the famous symbols of London. The Palace lies on the north bank of the River Thames in the City of Westminster, in central London. Westminster palace was built in 1050 by Edward the Confessor and was planned as a royal palace, but since 1547 it has been using as the meeting place for Parliament. This building was rebuilt in the years of 1840-1860 on the site of the old palace that burnt down in 1834.
Restoration of the Palace of Westminster after the fire in 1834, in which only Westminster Hall survived, was assigned to Charles Barry, which he did in the magnificent Gothic style with the help of Augustus Pugin, who completed the picturesque ornamental work.

The palace has 1,100 rooms, 100 stairs and 5 kilometers of corridors. One of the most famous towers of the palace is the Clock Tower of Elizabeth, which is known as Big Ben, the symbol of Great Britain. There is also Victoria Tower, which makes out the Royal entrance to the Parliament. During the session, the British state flag is raised on it.

The interior of the palace also has a breathtaking view. In 1987, the palace was included in the UNESCO World
Heritage List.
