Comparison of secondary education in Russia and the UK
Education is the process of educating and training people in the interests of society, the individual and the state itself. What is the difference between the education systems of Russia and the UK? Let’s compare them.
Features of study in Britain:
1 Before school, parents send their children to preparatory courses.
2 Education is compulsory from 5 to 16 years.
3 All students wear uniforms.
4 In the UK, there is a large selection of schools that accept only boys or girls for training. But in 90% schools are mixed.
5 At the age of 16, students take a state exam, after which they are entitled to continue their studies or start working.
6. In high school, students study only those subjects that they have chosen themselves.
7 To enter the university requires a course of A-levels, which lasts 2 years.
Features of study in Russia:
1 Many parents send their children to preschool institutions.
2 Children go to school at the age of 6 or 7 years old.
3 Secondary education is compulsory (it lasts 11 years).
4 There are 3 levels of study that last 3-4 years, 5 years and 2 years respectively.
5. In Russia, some subjects that are taught in graduation classes are compulsory.
6 At the end of the school, students take exams and receive certificates.
7 Then they continue their education both at secondary specialized educational institutions (colleges, technical colleges, colleges, etc.) and at higher educational institutions (institutes, universities,academies).
Having considered the features of education in both countries, we can conclude: the education of children in England and in Russia has some similarities.
But at the same time there are fundamental differences:
• in the UK, students can choose their favorite subjects, while in Russia the number of subjects increases with each class;
• there is no mandatory uniform in Russian schools;
• In British educational institutions discipline is severe and tough.
