St. Paul’s Cathedral
At the highest point of London, on Langate Hill, is St. Paul's Cathedral. This Europe's largest Anglican church is the residence of the Bishop of London. St. Paul's Cathedral is one of the most famous buildings in London, which became a symbol of the hope and strength of the nation. The date of the opening of the cathedral is October 20, 1708.It was built by architect Christopher Wren in 1675-1708.
The dome of the cathedral has become one of the main attractions of London. It has an external gallery, which gives a beautiful panorama of London. And under this dome there are 3 famous galleries: Whispering, Stone and Golden. The whispering gallery got its name due to the peculiarities of its acoustics: the whisper at one end of the room is well heard at its other end.
The spacious, well-planned interior of the cathedral makes an indelible impression on visitors.
In St. Paul’s Cathedral rests the ashes of nearly two hundred famous Englishmen. The first person buried in St. Paul’s Cathedral was Christopher Wren, the architect of the Cathedral.Duke Arthur Wellington,Admiral Horatio Nelson, Sir Winston Churchill and Lady Margaret Thatcher were also buried here.
St. Paul’s Cathedral reflects almost the entire British history of the last centuries: falls and rises, tragedies and dramas.Today before us stands the greatest cathedral, which shows with its appearance the great talent and persistence of the architect.
